很少人不為吉姆克羅琪醇厚而樸實的歌聲所感動（Jim Croce不唸成"吉姆克羅斯"），但其貌不揚的吉姆克羅琪在成名之前曾做過許多工作，其中大部分都是要靠勞力的粗活。因為他的手指曾經被重鎚擊傷，迫使他必須改變彈吉他的方式，或大部分只彈和絃，由搭檔Maury Muehleisen彈分解和絃，兩人的合作創造了許多美妙的聲響，這也使得許多學習民謠吉他的人，都會把吉姆克羅琪的作品當成必學範本。
「瓶中時光」這首歌是他第一張專輯裡面的歌，但始終未發行成單曲。後來有部描述年輕女性與癌症搏鬥的電視劇，選中了這首歌作為主題曲，電視劇播出之後，電視台接獲了無數的電話詢問何處可買得這首歌。
電視劇播出的當天，他正好完成了第三張專輯。八天後，他搭乘輕型飛機趕赴七十哩外的約會，結果失事墜毀，機上五人全部罹難，包括他的搭檔Maury Muehleisen。此時，吉姆克羅琪年方三十歲。
一個月後，「瓶中時光」發行為單曲，在第六個星期登上排行冠軍寶座。
